Abstract
There has been a considerable increase in interest in natural contraceptive measure in recent year because of growing disenchantment with current methods of contraception, refinement of techniques for measurement of hormonal levels in blood and urine and acknowledgement of the fact of the millions never using any but a natural contraceptive measure. We studied ovulation score method as a new natural contraceptive measure that is arranged of ovulation symptoms and menstrual period. It is based on the known of a characteristic changes of cervical mucus, intermenstrual abdominal pain(Mittelschmerz), intermenstrual genital spotting(Kleine-Regel) and breast engorgement or fullness during the menstrual cycles without any education. The purpose of this study, a sort of preliminary study of ovulation score method, is to decide the ovulation period and confine the correct fertile period using ovulation score for the practical use of contraceptive methods. To determine whether reproductive age of women could predict and identify symptomatically the occurrence of ovulation, fortyone volunteers with 114 cycles were instructed in patterns of several ovulation symptoms and menstrual period. The results were as follows; 1. The frequent ovulation symptomes were 82.9% of breast engorgement or fullness, 63.4% of cervical mucus symptom, 31.7% of Mittelschmerz and 26.8% of kleine-Regel in order respectively. 2. The incidences of ovulation symptoms were higher in Group B (observed more than 3 monthes) compared to Group A (observed less than 3 monthes). 3. The peak symptom day of cervical mucus amounts were noted on 0.9 day before the estimated ovulation date and the duration of the symptom was 6.2 days. 4. The peak symptom day of Mittelschmerz were noted on 0.3 day before the estimated ovulation date and continued for 2.0 day. 5. The peak symptom day of Kleine-Regel were noted on 1.1 day before the estimated ovulation date and continued for 1.8 day. 6. The peak symptom day of breast engorgement of fullness were noted on 5.8 day after estimated ovulation date and developed for 5.3 days especially at premenstrual period. 7. Calculated from the ovulation score method, fertile preiod of each cycle was within regular day and 114 cycles were mostly included in this fertile period. Especially in the cases of regular menstrual cycles, the fertile period was 11 days and in this fertile period, the ovulation score was higher on 5th, 6th and 7th day.
